Cynheidre, the last outburst prone mine in the country, closed in 1989, and since then virtually nothing has been published about the outburst phenomena and the lives that it claimed. There are many who are more suitably qualified to write a book on the subject than I, however, history should be recorded by people who were actually involved in the events that occurred, thereby obtaining as accurate a picture as possible. In the absence of any other work upon the subject, I decided that the events should be recorded before it becomes impossible to obtain first hand accounts.

The book is intended to be an in depth history and analysis of the outburst phenomena which is virtually unique to the Gwendraeth Valley in the United Kingdom....
