Robert, although now living in exile in Carmarthen and having been born in Morriston Hospital, is nonetheless Llanelli through and through. After school in London he worked briefly for his family business, Pugh Brothers in Cowell Street, before leaving to become an antiques dealer.
Robert's main interests have always been in things Welsh and in particular Swansea and Llanelly pottery. He is the co-author, with the late Gareth Hughes, of Llanelly Pottery and wrote the Towy Guide to Welsh Pottery, as well as numerous articles for local publications. He also wrote the section on Llanelly Pottery for Welsh Ceramics in Context.
For the last seventeen years Robert and his wife Carol have organised the antiques fairs at Carmarthen Showground and their main business is now events organisation, but they still involve themselves in antiques dealing.
Robert is a trustee of Carmarthenshire Historic Restoration Trust, the body responsible for the restoration of Llanelly House, and a director of Carmarthnshire Life Magazine. He is a director of Aberglasney Enterprises Ltd, the commercial arm of Aberglasney Gardens and also a trustee of the United Counties Agricultural Society.
