Our Living Heritage

Five Roads Heritage Society was born following the funeral of a well-known and liked local character, Jacky Lloyd. When Jacky died in April 2011, having been born and brought up in the village, it signified a realisation that unless a record of village life was recorded soon then it would be too late. Subsequently, a group of us decided to produce a book recording the colourful history of our village and the two adjoining hamlets of Horeb and Cynheidre. A public meeting followed and, with sufficient interest having been shown, the Society was formally set up, a Constitution adopted and a Bank Account opened thus enabling us to seek funding through Grant Aid. Following a successful application to Llanelli Rural Council and Heritage Lottery Wales, our project was born. Now, twelve months on, this book and accompanying DVD are published in tribute to those local residents who have shaped our community. As a result, thankfully, those who have passed before us will be remembered and celebrated through these publications — a legacy of a truly living heritage.
